2020 BOD Elections

October 5, 2020

I am sure all you who are HOA members received a copy of Lanier's email announcing the 'deadline' for bios for applications to run for the Board. If you haven't; here it is. If you di get a copy; here is my reply to Lanier.

The ByLaws do not specify that we have to apply or submit bios or submit any documentation at all to run for a Board position. Thus, there is no deadline to apply. In 2018, I applied, and my application was 'lost', which I only found out by sheer accident. I was not alone in having my application misplaced (or suppressed).

I also requested Lanier to confirm exactly which Board members were standing down as per the ByLaws, and that only Jeff, Sabrina, and anyone the Board voted in with a properly recorded vote to finish Erica's two year term were remaining on the Board.

Call me paranoid, but I am not confident that this Board won't try to pull tricks like they wanted to in 2019 (rushing things through so that there was no vote, and keeping people who had already had over 2 years on the Board on the Board), and as they did in 2018 (when the Board signed ByLaws into existence mere hours before the Annual Meeting, didn't tell the HOA Members, then immediately violated the ByLaws which called for ALL SEVEN Board Members to be voted in at the first meeting after the ByLaws were created). Who among you have confidence that this Board (whoever is actually still on it) is going to play any more fair than they have done historically?

My Reply to Lanier:

As per the ByLaws, there is no need for people interested in running for the Board to submit bios , and thus no deadline to submit bios, documents or applications.  We show up for the Annual Meeting and vote.  There is nothing in the ByLaws to suggest that HOA Members in good standing have to apply first. I suggest you announce to the HOA Membership that additions and write-ins are perfectly permitted.

I will be putting my name forward for the 2021 Board.  In 2018, when I submitted a bio, along with a number of other people, my bio was 'lost' (along with other HOA Members bios; HOA members that the then Board members did not approve of, and still don't approve of).  What guarantee do we have that this will not happen again?

However, I am wondering how you are handling the proxies this year.  I would also like to Lanier to confirm that the Board members staying on the Board are (as per the ByLaws):

Jeff Sopson

Sabrina Purvis

Whoever was elected by the Board in a proper vote, as per the ByLaws, to replace Erica Best.

As per the ByLaws, Trevor Ferguson and Mark Stephens have finished their two year terms (although neither was properly voted in at the December 2018 Annual Meeting as the Board neglected to follow the ByLaws they signed into effect a few hours earlier (and neglected to tell the HOA Members existed). So those two positions are up for election, plus Ashley Gamble, who is finishing out my two yer term, and anyone who was voted in by a proper Board vote to finish Megan Hamilton's term. I am requesting that Lanier confirm that these are the open positions for the 2020 Annual Meeting and Board elections.
